Social Media for Movie Lovers

First off, I want to say that I am not making any money from this review, I just think this is cool. I figured out about this app (and website) through a recent video by Film Riot. It's called Letterboxd, and I have been using it non-stop for the last 2 weeks.

Basically, you create an account, and it lets you mark all the films you've watched, films you want to watch, it you liked them, and your rating out of 5 stars. You can keep a diary of all of the films you have watched and what day you watched them. It is really interesting to look back on this list, there is some kind of insight that it gives you that is really cool. You can also create lists of movies (i.e. Spielberg movies worst to best, favorite World War 2 movies, etc.) and name your 4 favorite films, which will show up on your profile page. And they are legit to- they pull their information from TMDb, so they have every movie you could ever dream of there, as well as miniseries' like Band of Brothers. You can look at average ratings for a movie from the apps users, you can even look at the entire cast and crew of a movie, with each one of those people having their own page with every film they've done split into their roles in the film, it's crazy the amount of information they have packed into a single app (and website). The best part is, its all free! Everything I've just described comes form setting up an account with a username, email, and password, and that's it! They have paid upgrades, a $19/year subscription which creates personal stats about you (what year you have watched the most movies from, what percent of the IMDb Top 250 films you have watched, etc.) as well as a few other small things. They also have a $49/year subscription, which is all of that plus a backdrop on your profile list and special recognition on their patreon page. Is it worth it? Personally, I haven't tried it, it doesn't seem like a whole lot for the money, but it is a good way to support them and the statistics are cool to look at.

To conclude this, it is a really cool app to use if you are a movie lover. I have really enjoyed having this, even if it is a bit scary to realize all the time I have spent watching movies.
